Our organization is a presence on campus weighing in on matters affecting women and their careers, and we strive to support the evolution of a gender-neutral culture as WUSM. AWN’s activities include:
- sponsored seminars by prominent women physicians and scientists
- organized numerous seminars addressing issues pertaining to career advancement including a grant writing seminar series
- hosted a reception for new women faculty and two dinner meetings each year for members
- assisted in the development of an equitable maternity leave policy and continued to provide leadership in assuring quality on-site child care facilities
- published the Family Resource Handbook
- presented annually the AWN Leadership Awards to women in the graduate classes of the M.D. and Ph.D. programs
- presented annually the AWN Mentor Award to a male or female faculty member, instructor or above, that has served as an outstanding mentor to a female Washington University faculty member or trainee
- published a directory of members and maintains a website
- acted as a liaison between women faculty and the administration
- Received AAMC’s 2002 Women in Medicine Leadership Development Award
